Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is simply stunning for the Violet Grey June cover story, Wet Hot Summer. The images are breathtaking, but it wasn’t her sultry red lips or blood red nails that caught my eye. Nope. It was the eye gloss, of course.

You know I love a good “wet” eye look, (remember the one at DVF?) and Rosie’s is pretty much perfect. Eye gloss is so easy to wear – if you know how to do it right. It all ties back to my skincare philosophy, that with beautiful clean skin, you don’t need much to look your best. Sporting an eye gloss is clean, sexy, bada** and cool all at the same time. Just make sure to skip the black liner and avoid it on a windy day. Also, a little goes a long way, so dab it on sparingly.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley Violet GreyNow, when it comes to selecting your gloss, go for something that isn’t too sticky. If you want to know what the professionals use, the answer is clear – Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream (used on Rosie, obvi).  This award winning formula most definitely wins the MVP on set and off, for its multi-purpose capabilities that include healing cuts, scraps and burns, nourishing dry hands and cuticles, adding face “dew,” moisturizing lips, keeping eyebrows in place, cuticles perfect manicured, and well, the list goes on and on. It’s the secret that makeup artists all over the world use for keeping legs, lips and eyelids shiny. There’s a reason why makeup artists such as runway regular Pat McGrath and red-carpet king Troy Surratt use this ultra-moisturizing balm (it’s not really a cream) to create a “dewy, light-reflective” quality on the eyelids, but it can be applied anywhere you need a little extra glow.

Now let’s get down to business. Want to know how to get Rosie’s glossy eye, lips and nails included?? Well, I’ve got you covered:

I just returned back to New York from a long weekend in California, the second time I traveled cross-country to the sunny Pacific coast in two weeks. Although I LOVE long weekends out of the city, and especially when I get to explore pretty places like San Francisco, Napa, the Redwood Forest, La Jolla and Rancho Santa Fe, that long-a** cross-country flight takes a horrible toll on my skin. Oh, and not to mention that both weekends were filled with major wine consumption, far too much cake and of course, not enough sleep. Let’s just say that my beauty routine feels a little off, and although my skin isn’t totally in panic mode, it could use a little love in the repair department.

By Terry Rose BaumeOn the flight back to New York this time around, I did something smart and brought along my trusty and super luxe By Terry Cellularose Nutri-Baume, part of the rose collection. This rich non-greasy balm is the color of rose petals and the scent of fresh roses. It calms damaged and inflamed skin with its calming properties to restore balance. It’s multi-purpose, and a little goes a long way, so it will really last forever. For added sensation, apply my favorite By Terry Baume de Rose (which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year). Super cute, right? Together, these two are my latest must-haves for long flights and late nights and are a must for skin and lips that are in dire need of hydration.

Valmont Renewing PackOnce safely back in NYC and unpacking away at home sweet home, I applied a mask, because why not beautify while you reorganize your life. Right now, I’m loving the Valmont Renewing Pack (a fairly new favorite that I picked up while I was in Switzerland last month). This gentle yet effective mask burns (just ever so slightly) upon application so you know it’s hard at work. I have been known to leave this baby on for up to an hour. Apply a few times a week for 20 minutes, or every morning, and get ready to enjoy bright and lively skin.

Another fabulous post from my LA contributor, writer and beauty lover, Marisa Kronenberg.

Now more than ever Eastern skincare and beauty secrets are seeping into mainstream America. It’s super exciting because I’ve been practicing many of these techniques and using products from brands like Missha, Shiseido, and Shu Uemura since I was a teen. I’m half Thai and because my mom grew up in Bangkok, Thailand, I was lucky enough to spend many holidays and vacations abroad, absorbing Asian culture. Over the years, I’ve accumulated and adopted many Eastern skin and beauty tips that have shaped my skincare and makeup routine.

Eastern Beauty Treatments & SecretsEastern philosophy practices a mind, body, spirit approach to beauty. Asian women have always been well informed about the benefits of natural ingredients and the disadvantages of chemicals in their products, so many brands tend to use more herbs and botanicals and less artificial stuff. Now brands like Tata Harper and RMS Beauty are following suit with all natural, organic ingredients, which is nice to see especially when results aren’t sacrificed in the name of being green.

In general, Asian women are soooo diligent about taking care of their skin, and I have definitely inherited that slightly neurotic mentality from Asian culture. Asian women spend about seven times more on beauty than the average American woman (guilty as charged!), so Asian brands have to stay ahead of the curve to satisfy their extremely savvy consumers. I remember returning home from a trip to Thailand with a suitcase full of special facial oils and do-it-all creams that are now finally being sold in the US. From skin brightening products to the growing popularity of BB creams, CC creams, facial toning devices and more, Asian culture is staking a claim in the American beauty market for good.

On that note, I’ve pulled together the beauty secrets that were been passed down to me from generations of skin-obsessed and wrinkle-free Asian women! Want the secret to perfect skin? Look no further than She’s in the Glow approved guide to Eastern beauty treatments & secrets.

Eastern Beauty Treatments & Secrets Eastern Beauty Treatments & SecretsDouble Cleansing – In Asia, one round of facial cleansing isn’t enough! It may sound tedious, but “double cleanse” your skin by following the “424” method and your skin will totally thank you. First, massage a cleansing oil like Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil into your skin for 4 minutes, then use your regular face wash for 2 minutes (I love Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser) before washing your face with lukewarm water for another 4 minutes. For extra purified skin, finish with a polish like Amore Pacific Treatment Enzyme Peel. This powdery exfoliator has calming green tea and papaya extract and will leave your skin looking like a porcelain china doll.

Paper Masks – These ultra hydrating and rejuvenating masks have been used in Asia for centuries. They are made from cotton and doused in a serum of vitamins and collagen that absorb into your skin. Perfect after a long flight (or a long night!), I use them one to two times a week for an instant pick-me-up. My favorites are the Real Essential Sheet Mask by Missha and the Collagen Essence Mask by MJ Care. You need em! I also live for the SK-II Facial Treatment Masks.

Facial Sculpting and Toning – When I was younger, I was taught to use a soup spoon to drain the lymph nodes around my face and neck for a more toned and less bloated appearance. Now, there are high-tech devices like the NuFace that will do it for you and tone your facial muscles on a cellular level. These really work, and are backed by clinical proof to improve facial contour, tone, and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. To really amp up the treatment, use the device with a collagen packed serum like my favorite, Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen BoosterEven products like Clarins Facial Sculpting Serum and the Sculpting Mask deliver an instantly fresh look. They are seriously amazing! Another tip is to keep your pillow elevated at night so the fluids can flow down and not accumulate in your face. Comes in handy after a night of sodium-ridden sushi and sake!

Facial Slapping – Firmly but gently pat your face when massaging in your moisturizer to stimulate circulation and raise energy levels in the skin—think the McCauley Culkin a la Home Alone, ‘AHHH!’ face.

Eastern Beauty Treatments & SecretsMoringa Oil – At this point we’ve all heard about the benefits of coconut oil, which doesn’t hold a candle to amazing anti-aging and radiance boosting Moringa Oil, which comes of course, from the “Miracle Tree.” This nutrient packed oil can be used simply as a moisturizer and even as your cleansing oil in the first step of the ‘424’ cleansing method. My aunt even gave a bottle to Renee Zellwegger after she asked her how she keeps her skin looking so smooth and wrinkle-free at age 50! Renee now swears by it too.

SPF – While Americans pride themselves on their deep vacation tans, Asians prefer their skin as white and bright as possible. But one of the best things about America is the variety of natural skin tones. To maintain your personal best natural skin tone and texture, never leave the house without SPF. Shiseido’s sunscreen line is amaaazing and won’t clog your pores. If you need to leave the house in a hurry and want to minimize your steps, Korean line Koh Gen Do’s cult (and makeup artist) favorite Aqua Foundation has an SPF of 15 and will cover imperfections while giving you a fresh, dewy glow. I also live for the Shiseido Perfect Hydrating BB Cream and Wei’s Anti-Aging CC Cream. These products act like a foundation, treatment, and sunblock in one and are heaven sent for the girl on the go. And in summer months when SPF is most necessary, I also keep oil-absorbing sheets like Shiseido’s Pureness Oil Blotting Papers handy because I tend to get shiny.

Tea – Tea is a staple in Asian culture, and has a ton of known benefits for digestion, metabolism, energy, and disease prevention. I personally drink about 3 cups of matcha green tea a day as an alternative to coffee. I also love “Detox Teas” made from natural herbs and seeds like chicory root, dandelion, and flaxseed. I’ll drink it at night before bed for overnight cleansing when my body is feeling sluggish, especially when I’m traveling. The Detox Skinny Herbs Tea and the Ksumi BB (Beauty Beverage!) Detox Tea are two of my favorites because they have all the same ingredients of the teas they’ve made for centuries in Asia!

Pearl Powder – Pearl powder, which can be taken orally and comes in capsule form, is one of the best beauty secrets from the ancient Orient. It’s rich in minerals, amino acids, and delivers incredible anti-aging benefits. It’s also a main ingredient in Koh Gen Do’s Natural Lighting Powder (such a good one), which diffuses light to balance your skin and set your foundation.  I take a capsule a day from Dragon Herbs and my skin is so naturally bright and luminous!

The Korean Spa – It’s one of the most treasured parts of my beauty regimen. In Asian cultures, the bath isn’t just a place to wash your body, it’s the place you go to cleanse your soul. I’ll go to the Olympic Spa in Koreatown on a Sunday afternoon once a month or so and spend all day in and out of their detoxifing and rejuvenating saunas, whirlpools, and stone therapy rooms. Their scrubs will give you exfoliation like you’ve never experienced before. Seriously, I feel like I have glowing baby skin and a purified aura every time I leave that place. If you don’t have one in your city or cant find the time, simply spa at home! Take a nice steamy bath (the how-to is here!) and use a natural exfoliator like Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish, light some candles and zen out! I love Diptyque’s Jasmin Candle and Byredo’s Ambre Japonais Candle because they instantly transport you Eastern heaven.

Eastern Beauty Treatments & Secrets

Summer has arrived along with a new and super fresh crop of beauty products. Come on, girls, it’s out with the old and in with the new! I don’t know about you, but I’ve been trying to streamline my beauty routine as of late, sticking just to the essentials and what I know really works. This summer you might be busier than usual, leaving the city for the beach and let’s not forget wedding season. I feel like I’m always on the go and don’t have the time to spend applying a layer of makeup (not that I want to anyway). This season, and as per usual, I’m all about clean, glowy skin that’s healthily protected from the sun. Pretty pinks and corals to highlight my lips and nails are also something I’m after. Of course, I’m still inspired by the extreme beauty looks seen on the runways, especially the looks featuring a crazy eye or lip for a special event. But during the day, I’m looking to keep it simple, clean and fresh. Want to know my top ten products that I’ll be using until the very last drop? Well here you go, lovies, this is my June Glow Guide.

Hampton Sun Sun SPF 15 Gel – You already know I’m a fan of this line for its amazing array of skin saving SPF products, but this gel in particular glides on like silk, and is great for protecting your legs, on and off the beach. Plus it’s unisex so your man can get involved too.

Buxom Divine Goddess Luminizer – The name says it all, don’t you think? This mega-sized glow-in-a-bottle is the prettiest. I’m going to use it literally everywhere, and probably most frequently by mixing it in with my body lotion for an overall glowy effect.

Smashbox O-Plump Intuitive Lip Plumper – This Intuitive Lip Plumper is enhanced with Goji Berry-C Complex and gives you a plump pink pout that’s unique to your lips! It goes on clear and then reacts with your personal skin chemistry to turn lips your own custom shade of pink, while instantly plumping your pout to perfection. The color is just divine.

YSL Volupté Sheer Candy Glossy Balm – I couldn’t choose between Succulent Pomegranate and Dewy Papaya here, because they are both perfection. They both deliver a sheer veil of brilliant color boosted with vitamin and antioxidant-rich fruit extract. It’s ultra-light, sensual texture leaves lips feeling soft and hydrated.

James Read Sleep Tan Mask – You all know I’m obsessed with this two-in-one wonder. Apply the mostly clear (its slightly tinted to avoid mistakes) formula before bed, and wake up with a slightly tan, hydrated and super glowy complexion that isn’t covered in blemishes.

Tom Ford Nail Polish, Coral Beach – This sheer coral peach cream color that’s more orangey and less pink is the perfect summer color and great alternative to the typical pink. You must try.

Kevyn Aucoin Creamy Glow Duo, Pravella/Janelle – Every girl needs this cream blush sitch ASAP. Each color is gorgeous and can be used alone or combined for a customized look. During the day, I love to apply a tinted moisturizer, concealer and a little cream blush. Really, that’s all you need in the summer anyway. This duo also doesn’t melt off in the summer heat. It’s a dream!

Serge Lutens Fleurs d’Oranger – I love this smell! Sweet as honey with subtle flashes of Jasmine and Tuberose, this masterful scent is a sophisticated way to wear ladylike florals. I saw this first on Elin Kling’s The Wall, and knew I had to try it. Oh, and this passed my scent test. I receive multiple compliments, “You smell sooo good,” when wearing this lovely scent. Trust me.

Giorgio Armani Eyes To Kill Eyeshadow, Lust Red – This color is a rich, blackened violet burgundy with ruby red, blue-violet, and violet shimmer. It’s a luxurious super soft and smooth texture that almost feels like velvet. This is a product that lives up to its claim; it wears all night without budging, creasing, or fading. It’s neither powder nor cream but a hybrid that creates a “smooth, lasting color film” that can be applied wet or dry. It’s going to be my go-to evening eye. I can’t help but dig that vampirey effect.

Giorgio Armani Sheer Bronzer, Golden Sand – Create the perfect sun-kissed glow using Armani’s soft micro-fine bronzing powder. Hands down the BEST bronzer around that delivers perfectly bronze/ coppery color. I borrowed this baby from a friend and I have been hooked ever since. The formula is sheer, but buildable to you really create you own custom (not orangey) shade.

Lips are the key to seductiveness, at least according to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Italian powerhouse Dolce & Gabbana recently launched 42 new lip shades as part of their Cream Lipstick collection. Each color was inspired by a different rose and is strikingly different from the next. I attended the label’s press launch and it was filled to the brim with roses of every variety (I didn’t know there were well over 100 different types of roses!). It was absolute floral heaven.

You can’t help but truly appreciate the attention that went into deciding the exact color of each and every shade. The formula is sooo nice too. As its name claims, the collection is super creamy but is still super moisturizing and buildable, something I love most, meaning you can adjust the shade depending on your personality and mood. D&G suggests that you apply the lipstick with a brush or even with you finger, so you can really customize the look. Pat McGrath, D&G’s Global Creative Advisor suggests you “apply lip color then blot with a tissue after application to help set the color. Then, reapply lipstick. The result is a significantly more intense color effect. It’s a great method to use when you want to draw attention to the lips.”

Dolce & Gabbana Cream Lipsticks
What I love about this collection is the color selection – it’s seriously gorgeous. I love Goddess, which is the perfect soft natural pink. There are some pretty amazing nudes (that are oh so Bridget Bardot) like Honey and Nude too. You simply need them for when you’re feeling that mod moment. If you’re searching for that perfect red then you must try Devil, the color that actress Monica Bellucci wears in the ad campaign. Chic is another one of my favorites because it’s the perfect shade of warm rosy pink that’s flattering on anyone and goes with everything.

But enough about me, what’s your favorite? Starting at the top (1 o’clock) and going clockwise, Chic, Bon Bon, Dahlia, Daring, Shocking, Traviata, Devil, Bellissima, Honey and Nude.
