The other day, I stumbled on a little hack that I just had to share with you guys.  This one of my favorite new beauty hacks because it makes shaving my legs so much more effective.  All I had to do was move one of my favorite skin moisturizing products into the shower.

The product I’m referring to is one of my ride or die winter essentials.  I’ve never gone without this item since I was first introduced to it by a stewardess with flawless skin.
Gel moisturizers have been a lifesaver ever since.  But, once summer rolls around, I tend to swap out gel moisturizers for lighter options.  Recently, I learned of yet another application for gel moisturizers that I was super excited to try out.

It’s so simple that I’m baffled as to why I haven’t thought of it myself.

Basically, my gel moisturizers have now taken on the role of shave gel.  They are the quintessential shave gel alternative for a few reasons.  The most convincing is because shave gel will leave your legs so ultra smooth and hydrated.  They moisturize on a deeper level that lasts beyond the shower experience.

I attempted to replicate this same process with Neutrogena’s Bath Oil but baby oil gel was far superior. The thicker consistency of gel left my legs feeling so much smoother and moisturized.

I now have to buy another baby oil gel for my dresser because this one is never leaving my shower.  I’m glad I learned of this hack prior to summer.  You have to try it.

This is the second post in a series where I gush over the effortless glow of a summer muse.  Last time, we analyzed the root cause of Gabrielle Union’s summer glow.  Today, we’ll rehash what we know of Kelly Rowland’s beauty rituals.

On the surface, Kelly looks like she’s a low maintenance type of gal.   But she’s far from that.  Although she keeps her look pretty natural, there’s a lot of work that goes into her effortless results.  I mean, just look at her.  She looks like a beautiful young lady enjoying a day at the beach.  She doesn’t look like a woman nearing 40 years old.  Her body is perfect, her skin is perfect, her hair is perfect.   Everything worked together to create this amazing moment.

One of Kelly’s best features is her skin.  We can all attribute her healthy glow to genetics but, in actuality, she puts a lot of attention and invests heavily in her skin.  Kelly has been known to brag about her love for Nutra Bisse products.  Specifically their peel off mask.  If memory serves me, Kelly is the one who introduced Beyonce to the brand.  Like every other celebrity with flawless skin, exfoliation is a staple in Kelly’ regimen.  Right now, she’s loving Dr. Denis Gross’ peel pads.  Apparently, they helped clear an unexpected breakout overnight and she’s been loyal ever since. We’ve already discussed how the key to flawless summer skin involves adding exfoliating acids to your regimen.  If you’re serious about glowing skin, don’t skip out on exfoliating acids.

Kelly’s wearing cut off denim shorts and a simple crop top.  I honestly thought the crop top trend would be over by now but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.  Kelly proudly displays her midsection because she’s worked hard for her results.  If you recall, Kelly has been known to knock out a couple of hundred sit-ups a night to maintain a toned core.  She’s also faithfully worked out with her favorite trainer, Jeanette Jenkins.  I remember when Destiny’s Child first came on the scene.  You could tell that Kelly always had a small frame.  It’s easy to think that a body like hers comes naturally, but not so.  The toned legs and midsection come from focused exercise.  Stop thinking that you can live a completely sedentary life and enjoy a toned-fit body.  It doesn’t work that way.  The reason why Kelly puts in the work is because she “loves the way her clothes fit.”  I’m sure we all want that.  Kelly also loves munching on healthy greens like kale and spinach.  Not only does eating clean contribute to keeping her frame slim, it helps keep her skin pretty as well.

Another attribute I love about Kelly is that she enjoys the art of self-care. She loves treating herself to various beauty routines & rituals.  I think her entire lifestyle is centered around pouring into herself and feeling good.  She eats a lot of greens because of how they make her feel. She works out first thing in the morning to create energy to last throughout the day.  She invests in herself so that she can be the best version of herself for her family.   It’ a wonderful philosophy to have and it’s served her very well.

It began about a month ago.  Cold temperatures meant that I had the heater on full blast.  An unintended side effect was extremely dry air.  The job of any good heater, or AC unit, is to control humidity.  This isn’t a bad thing during summer.  But, when humidity levels are already low, plucking what’s left of it out of the air is disastrous for the skin.

There were nights when I’d wake up extremely uncomfortable.  I thought that removing layers of clothing was the solution to help improve my rest.  But that wasn’t the answer.  What I was dealing with was an onset of dehydration as I slept.  And it was pretty bad.

To solve the problem, I implemented a simple solution and have experienced a multitude of benefits ever since.

Around that same time, I was brainstorming small actions I could take, that created the feeling of abundance.  One easy idea that came to mind was to purchase a pack of those small 500ml Fiji Water bottles.  I’d proudly display them in my newly organized fridge kinda like a celebrity filming an episode of MTV Cribs.

I thought bought those mineral waters were for show, but they ended up helping me create a new habit which has paid off big time.

Whenever I’d wake up feeling parched, I’d quickly down a full bottle and doze right back to sleep.  I did that for a few days back to back.  Each time I’d awaken, I’d simply reach for the little bottle sitting next to my bed.  Within a few days, I decided to take a more preemptive approach and drink a bottle prior to bed.  Doing so prevented me from waking up seeking rehydration.

It wasn’t long before I noticed additional benefits.

The first, and most obvious is how much drinking water at night stimulated my digestion.  Every time I drank ample amounts of water either before bed or during the night, I noticed the positive impact to my digestion.  I also woke up feeling well rested and ready to take on the new day.

**side note, keeping several bottles of Fiji water by my bedside made my room feel like high-end hotel.  Except that I wasn’t scared to actually open up a bottle.**

Once I implemented my “nightly hydration routine,” my excessive seasonal dryness seemed to go away.  For instance, my scalp dermatitis always flares up this time of year, but hydrating before bed seemed to make a huge difference.  The skin on my face also isn’t as dry.

From an internal perspective, drinking adequate amounts of water before bed can benefit your body in so many ways.  We all know that while we’re asleep, our internal system is wide awake, working diligently. Especially the functions of our body responsible for cleansing and detox.   It makes sense to supply our bodies with the fuel it needs to properly conduct an overnight cleanse.

Yes, drinking more water before bed might mean extra trips to the restroom at night.  But after being consistent, my body sorta got used to it and now I sleep through the night even if I drink prior to bed.  Also drinking before bed doesn’t necessarily mean guzzling down water right before you hit the sack.  I just make sure to up my water intake at least an hour or so before bed.  This gives me time to use the restroom prior to falling asleep.

The other day, I was reading about Diddy’s nightly beauty routine. It turns out that he too consumes a large bottle of water prior to calling it a night. He’s a businessman who needs to wake up ready to tackle a new day, even after a night of partying.  Keeping your body hydrated while you sleep is a surefire way to make sure you don’t skip a beat.  I also read online that pre-sleep hydration will help you wake up earlier.  If you don’t wake up overnight to use the restroom, your body will send the signal to you early morning.  For those of you who have trouble waking up early, you might want to give this a try.

You don’t have to use Fiji brand but I like these because of their mineral content.  I’m drinking them for somewhat therapeutic reasons. I think the mineral & silica content provides internal health and beauty benefits beyond tap water.

**Second side note: 500ml is the amount of water used in the study to determine that water boosts metabolism.  How perfect is that?!? Anytime, I want to stimulate my metabolism, I grabbed one of the small Fiji bottles and drank up. **

This is now officially a part of my daily detox routine.  I don’t have a solid nightly beauty routine in place yet but I’m building one starting from the ground up.  First I focus on the internal beautification then work on the external.

It’s been a while since I’ve done an Instagram Beauty Secrets roundup.  One reason for this is because I want to keep the integrity of posts to ensure that these are beauty products that celebrities & Instagrammers actually love.  Nothing #sponsored here.

Let’s get started!
Hannah Bronfman (pictured above) is no stranger here. We’ve already peeked insider of her fridge, it seems only fair to know what skin products she’s obsessed with.  Not too long ago she shared an Instagram story featuring a product created by a woman with more than 20 years of development experience in the cosmetics industry.

The backstory behind this brand is that the founder discovered its main active ingredient (Centella Asiatica) while researching ways to eliminate a stubborn scar.  Essence 27 is described as “a moisturizing booster fluid which provides the skin with the moisture it needs while enhancing cell tone.” I have no idea what “enhancing cell tone” means. But, if I had to guess, I suspect that it has something to do with keeping the skin cells plump and firm. That’s why they load this product with hyaluronic acid, known for its uber moisture retention properties.  Centella extract is been shown to have a positive effect on wound healing and collagen synthesis.  I would’ve loved to have a serum like this back when I was suffering from cystic acne.  All I cared about was finding products to reduce/eliminate acne.  I didn’t even think about using serums that helped the skin to properly repair and heal.  Years later, I’m spending lots of money to correct these deeper scars.  Looking at the price point, this is definitely a splurge item.  But, for what it claims to do, it could be a great investment.  Anytime someone with great skin gets excited about a product, I listen because it means that they notice a real difference even though their skin was already perfect.

Here’s a vid featuring Hannah as she runs through her morning skin routine.

Did you notice all the steps involved? Here’s a rundown of all the products used.

  • Line Botancials Cleanser
  • Lotion P50 from Biologique Reserche
  • Niod Copper Activator
  • Cosmetic 27 Essence + their Eye Cream
  • Bloodcream from Dr. Barbara Sterm

Mega-makeup influencer Amrezy Olevic is known for creating flawless makeup looks.  Everyone knows that in order to create a flawless look, one must start with a flawless face.  I follow her on Snapchat and have seen her without makeup countless times.  This woman’s skin is impeccable. For the longest time, she never shared any of her favorite skin care products.  Then… day…..she posted this with the simple caption “New Favorite Mask.”

The highlight of this mask is that it both DETOXIFIES and BRIGHTENS most detoxifying masks clean your pores and that’s it.  But Brilliant Skin claims to do both. We know that the pink clay will cleanse deeply but how does the mask brighten?  According to the brand, it brightens by helping to prevent free radical damage via ingredients like mangosteen and kelp.  If you’re in the market for a clay-based mask that also brightens through exfoliation you may want to check out this brand which features pink clay + rice enzymes to gently exfoliate the skin.  It’s also about half the price.
I check in on Sheneka’s SnapChat stories because this woman a great example of consistency.  She works out almost on a daily basis and she enjoys the finer things in life.  Every so often, she’ll share a glimpse of her favorite beauty items.
Years ago, when I first learned of the benefits of collagen, I tried and fell in love with, collagen chews.  It seems as if Sheneka is also a fan of these chewy anti-aging treats.  Hers seem way more powerful than the ones I tried.  These Collagen Replenish chews also contain hyaluronic acid to preserve internal moisture and vitamin C which is essential for collagen building.
Sheneka deemed them as one of her best-kept beauty secrets.  I co-sign on the goodness of collagen.  If you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon yet, I suggest you start soon. Sheneka is under the age of 30 and she’s already ahead of the game.  Don’t wait until you start noticing collagen loss to supplement.  Collagen decline starts at around 20. Once we hit 30, the rate of loss increases and it only gets worse from there.  Take Sheneka’s advice of supplementing now so you can thank her later.

Over time, I’ve collected bits and pieces of the routine beauty habits that create Karrueche’s beautiful skin. For the most part, we’ve been surviving on scraps, but we are eating today girlies!
Karrueche recently spilled the details to her entire regimen.  Because I’m such a creeper, I’ve already uncovered and written about some of what she does to create her glow.  But there were some new revelations in this article that I wasn’t previously aware of.
Let’s discuss.

Thanks to an interview from The Cut, we know have full knowledge of the secrets to Karrueche’s perfect skin.  I’m sure some of it is genetics, but this girl really puts in work. You can tell that healthy skin is something she’s passionate about. These are the type of people that we can learn the most from.  I mean, just look at her skin.

A post shared by karrueche (@karrueche) on

The first secret that Karrueche reveals is that she’s invested in a facial steamer.  She utilizes it to prep her skin prior to masking. This is absolutely brilliant because steaming before any facial treatment will only enhance the results.  When the pores are clear (post-steaming) the hydrating effects of a mask are amplified. Following the mask, she seals all the goodness in by closing her pores using ice cubes.  Here’s the running list of celebrities who use ice-cubes in their regimen.
1. Naomi Campbell
2. Pharrell
3. Jasmine Tookes
4. Karrueche Tran
That’s just a few.  If you weren’t digging my cold shower recommendation, an ice cube facial is probably the next best thing.
She then goes on to name off a few of her favorite masks.  Turn out I was right when I guessed that her golden mask was Peter Thomas Roth’s 24k Lifting/Firming Mask.  She says it herself in this interview.  Kae’s other favorite masks include Glam Glow, Origins and LaMer.  Sounds like a pretty good line up if you ask me.
Beyond the intense masking regimen, we know that Karrueche is a big fan of saunas.  She relies on the sauna as a way to do a major detox on her skin.   She doesn’t go into much detail in the interview, but we’re already aware that this girl doesn’t just sauna, she has a complete sauna-skin clearing routine
One, not so healthy habit she has is obsessively picking at her skin.  For most of us, this is a death sentence.  Discoloration and acne scars will abound when we mess with our skin.  But, with the help of a steamer or sauna, removing gunk that lays beneath the surface becomes much easier.  That’s probably how she’s able to get away with it.
If you’re desperate to clear out white/black heads, laying below the surface of your skin, try this multi-step technique.
The last thing I want to highlight from her interview is a reveal of her HOLY GRAIL skin product.  Although I prided myself in figuring out most of her ritual, I had no knowledge of the ONE ITEM that gets her the most compliments.
Karrueche once splurged on Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Serum and has never looked back.  Apparently, this stuff is so good that she immediately restocks once it runs out.  It makes sense to always go back to the product that is guaranteed to generate comments. This item isn’t cheap but seems to be pretty amazing.  All the reviews are glowing. If you want to give it a try, be prepared to invest over $100.00.  If you aren’t ready just yet, consider trying the hero ingredient and see if you can get favorable results. One thing I noticed was that camellia seed oil was included.  This is the same oil that Gabrielle Union swears by.  I love Camellia seed but I haven’t incorporated it into my skin care regimen. I’m definitely going to blend a drop or two into my favorite cream or serum and see what transpires.  Then adding Chanel’s Hydra Serum to my splurge list.
One beauty secret that we’re aware of, but wasn’t mentioned in the article is the fact that Karrueche also indulges in various health tonics & juices that keep her skin glowing from the inside out.  She also goes into her favorite hair products.  But I won’t spoil it, you can check out the full interview here
