My Vintage Store Shopping List
One of my favorite past times is driving to the other part of town and check out the rare finds at my favorite thrift store.  Thrifting became a tradition for me back in middle school when my mom first introduced me a huge thrift store that was always packed on the weekends.

For her, it was a way of saving a few extra dollars on purchases that would normally cost much more. But I fell in love with thrifting because of the unique items that I wouldn't come across in your typical retail store.  I had an eclectic taste in clothing so the thrift store became my favorite place. A couple years ago, I purchased several amazing outerwear pieces from the thrift shop that I absolutely love.

I'm way overdue for another trip, but this time, I've got a laundry list of exactly what I want.  Let's discuss.

CROPPED SWEATSHIRT
I have this weird hangup about cutting up items that I pay full price for.  But, if it only costs a few bucks, I don't mind experimenting.  I'm on the lookout for an oversized sweatshirt to alter.  I'd like to give it a cropped look similar to what Kerrueche's wearing.  It may not be as revealing in the mid-drift, but I'd love something similar.  I dig how both the waist and sleeves are tailored to give the top and added element of style.  She paired it with a simple skinny jean and statement heels. The entire look appears understated yet very well put together.
OVERSIZED MENS SHIRT
Next on my purchase list is plain stripped men's button-up shirt.  We've seen effortlessly Rihanna pull off this look. I'd like to try and replicate it. I'll experiment using a man's shirt to see if it gives me enough wiggle room to tie at the waist or leave a few of the top buttons undone without being too revealing.  If that doesn't work out, I could always have it tailored as a cropped button-up shirt.

VINTAGE JEANS
Jean trends are now leaning more towards high waisted, looser fitting cuts.  And whenever there's a new trend, they always want to charge you an arm and a leg. Especially when we're talking about jeans.  Chances are the "newest trend" is has probably been done before and it's sitting on a thrift store rack for a few dollars.  Notice how she removed the hem of the jeans to give it a more modern take.  That's an easy DIY project that can be done in minutes and will save you lots of money.

STATEMENT SKIRTS
I'm on a mission to acquire a small collection of interesting skirts.  Thrifting will be an integral component of ensuring the success of the plan. Now that I've linked up with a tailor that I absolutely love, I plan on broadening my horizon.  I want a multitude of skirts in various lengths, patterns, and fabrics.  They'll all be paired with graphic tees to keep the look simple.  If you still enjoy mild weather during the fall months, consider adding stylish skirts to your fall style looks.

PRINTED OUTWEAR
If your wardrobe consists mainly of staple items, I invite you to take a step into the unknown by venturing into the world of printed outwear.  Patterened outerwear was made for people like us.  We like to stick to neutral colors and basic items.  The only way to add a bit of flair is by tossing on a coat that was made to draw attention.  Outerwear can get pretty pricey, especially if you are going for one with bold details.  That's why thrifting is your best bet!  It's much more affordable which means that we can step out of our comfort zone by picking up a few different options.  I have enough black and neutral coats. It's time to acquire one that will grab attention the minute I walk into a room. Again, tailoring is important to ensure the fit is perfect.

This is just the start.  The thrift store is also the perfect place to find one of a kind accessories.  Best of all, it doesn't break the bank which means more money in your pocket to really diversify your wardrobe.

Fall is a few weeks away and I'm way behind on collecting fall looks inspiration.  Typically when I think of fall, I imagine multi layers and knitted textures.  But supermodel Jasmine Tookes has completely transformed the perception of a "fall outfit" with this recent look.
The fitted leather pants are a customary fall staple.  As the weather shifts, we trade in our shredded jeans for leather skinnies.  I've been on the lookout for the perfect pair for years.  The one Jasmine is wearing is perfect because it buttons at the waist. This helps ensure a better fit.  We love the horizontal zipper detail and the extra zippers at the ankle.  If she were to walk into a room with fellow stylish women in leather pants, Jasmine would certainly stand out, thanks to the extra detail.

To keep the look feminine and flirty, she opted for a wrap shirt with lots of drama.  First, it's a crop which shows off her trimmed waist.  The huge side knot draws our attention, but the layered sleeves are the star of the show.  I typically hate tops with too much going on but, this time, I'm making an exception.

Jas' blouse perfectly complements her simple look.  She kept the colors neutral. Even her accessories weren't over the top.  Which makes blouse is the ultimate statement piece. Everything Jasmine is wearing perfectly compliments each other. That's why her look seems so effortless and perfect.
Can we take a moment to discuss her skin?  It's a rainy day and yet the girl is glowing!  I'm confident that this has everything to do with her healthy skin habits.  One thing we know about her routine is that Jas works out pretty religiously.  Hence the trim waist. I also happen to know that she loves Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk Foundation.....I mean, who doesn't?  It's on my top 3 list of favorite foundations.   I've also seen Jasmine featured on the Instagram page of Kim Kardashian's cosmetic doctor.  She's done some laser therapy (Cool Laser) to remove blemishes and resurface the skin.  I've considered trying laser treatments in the past but was told that micro needling produces similar results. The main difference is that with lasers, the results come much more quickly.

When we put our focus and attention toward ridding acne scars once and for all, everything we've ever wanted becomes possible. Foundation looks amazing on our skin, we can go makeup free and still get compliments, we can strut with the same unshakable confidence that Jasmine has.

Every few days, a friend of mine invites to meet her at a fancy social club located in the heart of downtown.  It's a posh professional lounge with beautiful city views.  I've become somewhat masterful at turning down her generous request.  The thought of having to break out my business casual attire from my past life sends shivers down my spine.

I've become fully immersed in a world of wearing casual, comfy clothing.  The thing with casual attire is there's a thin line between looking cute & comfy or looking like you've totally given up on life.  I have to admit that I've been guilty of crossing that line.  There have been times where I've silently prayed asking that I don't run into anyone I know while running errands.  That's not the way to live.

If I'm going to be a lifelong comfy dresser, I might as well learn to do it right.   There are certain rules that one must abide by that allow us to sport casual clothing while still looking like we care about ourselves.  Let's discuss.

Never go full baggy

Oversized clothes are the epitome of comfort wear.  With loose fitting clothes, we don't have to concern ourselves with certain details.  Baggy clothes always fit so they sometimes become a default option.  A while back, I made the commitment to avoid baggy clothes as much as possible. Whenever my wardrobe consists mainly of loose-fitting clothes,  I'll start to put on weight. It never fails.  Worst of all, I don't realize what's happening until it's too late. By then, my "normal" clothes barely fit.  That's why I've taken an oath to mix baggy and fitted items whenever possible.  One negative view of baggy clothes is that you didn't put much thought into your look. Pairing it with a fitted item balances out the entire outfit.  Suddenly, your clothing choices appear intentional. Not like you threw on what you had available until laundry day.

Accessorize Strategically
The easiest way to elevate lounge wear is by mastering the art accessorizing. The great thing about applying this strategy is that you have multiple options.   I like to layer on various tiny rings, chain bracelets or sparkly studs.  It really doesn't matter your jewelry preference, as long as you add something that requires an additional step. In doing so, you're sending a message that you care about the details.   And that's super important if you're a serial comfy dresser like me.

Add High-Quality Items
If you want to take your accessory game to the next level, you should seriously consider investing in a few designer pieces. A quality bag and the right pair of shoes can go a long way towards transforming your simple look into something magical.  Years ago I made the decision to stop buying a bunch of trendy clothes and redirect my finances towards securing high-quality pieces.  Best decision ever.  Now, I can walk into almost any situation and still get compliments, even when I'm wearing basics.

Fix Your Face
One habit I've been cultivating is to avoid walking out with a completely bare face. I don't have to go all out, just a 5-10 minute natural face routine is enough.  Once I experimented with going to Walmart with a full face just to see what difference it made.  I noticed a lot more looks than normal and a couple people even approached me.  I go grocery shopping pretty regularly and most of those trips are pretty uneventful.  But when I put in a little more effort in my appearance, I attract more.  People react to you differently when you present the best version of yourself. This even applies to you.  When you feel good, you make different (better) choices. Imagine the compounding effect of you looking and feeling good day after day.  There are real benefits to be had.  Take full advantage.

Invest in Quality Leisure Wear
One area I need to do better in is to sport better-looking loungewear.  I have to admit that most of my comfy clothes were bought for the purpose of wearing around the house or while running errands.  Needless to say, I didn't invest much in them and they look unimpressive.  Nowadays, athleisure is all the rage and the choices for designer active/loungewear is endless.  One of my goals for the remainder of the year is to toss out most of the stuff I have and replace with hand-picked quality pieces that are both stylish & comfy.
Focus on Your Signature
Lastly, I invite you to define a signature item that you'll maintain even when you're wearing a laid back look.  For some, that means maintaining immaculate nails (which looks great when you're wearing casual gear) or making sure your hair is on point.  Doesn't have to be fancy. Just make sure you have a few hairstyle options that typically attract compliments.

Once you've established the most complimentary hairstyle or accessory, you can dress down all you want and still demand attention when you walk into any room. Also remember, when you're dressing down, there are certain details that can't be missed. Your skin must appear to be healthy and hydrated, Your clothes must be in good condition.  You have to look like you put some thought into your look.  If these requirements aren't met, you end up looking like you just rolled out of bed and put on whatever was within reach.  That's not a good thing.  This is what leads to silent prayers hoping that you don't run into anyone you know.  Lucky for us, this situation is completely avoidable.

If you're looking for more inspiration on dressing down and looking pulled together, you'll find some great ideas by paying attention to paparazzi pics taken at an airport.  These celebrities are often dressed down yet they know there's a decent chance that they'll be photographed so dress accordingly.
