I’m a sucker for simple looks that create maximum impact.  One of my style muses is Karrueche Tran for this very reason.  She’s a master at mixing wearable, everyday pieces with designer brands. The end result is pretty effortless and completely flawless.

Case in point, Karrueche was recently spotted wearing a fall look that, I believe, everyone could pull off.  Maybe it’s her petite frame, but Karreuche prefers to keep the outfit pieces simple and flattering.  Her signature move is to elevate her looks by rocking a stunning pair of shoes.
And that’s exactly what we see here as Karrueche is enjoying a leisurely day of shopping & running errands.
Her outfit is understated yet perfect.  A blue turtleneck and distressed jeans.  Very wearable.  But when you pair that with some fierce blue booties and a statement Chanel Boy bag, everything about her look changes.
My first thought was a reflection on how I couldn’t take my eyes off her shoes. They’re the perfect length to wear all year round.  I love the cuffing of the jeans which serve to feature the booties even more.  After a little digging, I discovered that her stunner boots were designed by Gianvito Rossi.  They are quite an investment, but I have to admit,  the details are impeccable.
I’ve still need to save a few more pennies before I’m able to completely recreate this look, but, I tracked down some really cute alternatives. Truthfully, I didn’t know how much I needed a pair of blue booties until now.  But if blue isn’t your color, I’m positive this look will still be flawless with a similar pair in nude, black or red.  Even without the navy turtleneck, this pairing of a distressed, loose fitting jean & stiletto booties is giving me all the feels.

I’ve been trying to branch out a little more with my style recently and wear pieces I wouldn’t usually be daring enough to go near, without worrying about what other people think. A studded leather jacket like the one in this post is just one example. I’d never normally wear something like this as I’d rather stick to a plain leather jacket instead – one that looks nice but doesn’t necessarily make a huge statement or stand out like one covered in studs does. I’ve had this weird paranoia about the things I wear since I was a teenager- I panic I’ll look OTT and that people will mock me or think ‘who does she think she is’ if I wear anything even a little bit out of my comfort zone. I guess that’s what happens when you get mocked for your fashion choices by high school bullies.
I was thinking the other day how crazy it is that comments made years and years ago can still affect people so many years later. That a bad experience involving people who are totally irrelevant can really stick with you and knock your confidence to the point that you question if you actually want to wear an item of clothing (regardless if you absolutely love it) out in public for fear of being judged. To most people, this jacket won’t even be anything to worry about it as I know there’s far more daring items out there but for someone like me who usually sticks to fairly simple clothing on a daily basis, it’s quite a daring piece and definitely one of those I was hesitant to wear.
However, since shooting this outfit, I’ve realised those thoughts are completely irrational and people probably wouldn’t even bat an eyelid if they saw someone wearing this – I know I wouldn’t. In fact, I’d probably think they look great and wonder where they got it from. For example, Lydia who I was shooting with commented on how much she loved the jacket and that she was looking for one herself and it made me realise that a lot of the worries we have about other peoples perceptions of us and our clothing choices are often completely in our heads.
What I’m trying to say is that I’m making a conscious effort to care less about what other people think of me in general, including the clothing I choose to wear. At the end of the day, we can all wear whatever the hell we like and personal style is what makes us all individuals. Not everybody will like the same pieces of clothing but that’s totally fine – Imagine how boring the world would be if everyone dressed exactly the same and nobody has their own personal style. After all, our style is a way of expressing ourselves so if we love an item of clothing and want to wear it, we should do it without any worries about other people and their sometimes not very nice opinions!

After that little impromptu rant, back to the outfit. The sassy studded leather jacket I’m talking about is from Miss Pap and you can get it here (plus 10% discount with KAYLEIGHJ10!). The high waisted grey jeans I’m wearing are another item that’s a little more daring than I’d usually wear with lace up detailing right up the crotch. I’ve seen loads of bloggers posting these on Instagram recently and I’m not surprised they’re so popular as they’re such a cool statement piece and look great with a little cropped top like this Forever Young slogan tee which you can get here for only £10 – such a bargain. I also think these could be dressed up for evening wear with a bodysuit – what do you guys think? It’s funny as I’m always so much more daring with my outfits in the evenings than I am during the day – anyone else like that too?!
Do you worry about what people think of your fashion choices or couldn’t you care less?! Would love to hear your thoughts on it!!

I’m almost too ashamed to say this, but I don’t currently own a pair of boots.  The excuse I tell myself is that it doesn’t really get that cold where I live.  For me, boots represented another method of staying warm in cold weather.  Yes, the are meant to help keep us warm, but they offer so much more than an additional layer of protection. A beautiful pair of boots have the ability to transform your entire look.

I’ve never really been tempted to step outside of my comfort zone and purchase boots until now.

The over the knee trend has finally brought me out of hiding.  There’s something intriguing about the juxtaposition of the shorter top (or dress) and the ultra tall boot. It’s magical.  Every time I see someone rocking a pair of full-length boots paired with a shorter length top, I do a double take.  The woman who sports this look is bold, super confident, and has amazing style.

Truth be told, I’m probably not yet ready to step out of the house in an oversized chunky sweater and over the knee boots.  But, I’d totally rock them with some black leggings or skinny jeans (like in the pic above).  Sometimes wearing leggings as pants doesn’t look as put together as we would like.  But add a pair of boots and your casual look is instantly taken up several notches.

I’m actually quite shocked at how affordable some of these boots are.  They are definitely going on my wish list.

One of my favourite things about Winter is getting to layer up and wear cosy coats. I always buy at least one new coat every year and usually, they’re a neutral colour like black, grey or camel. However, I decided to branch out a little bit this year and add a bit of colour to my Winter coat selection. As soon as I spotted this mauve tailored coat on the Missguided website, I knew it had to be mine. I actually already own it in nude but I fell in love with this colour and thought it would be a nice statement piece to add to my wardrobe.
Since it arrived a couple of weeks ago, it’s been my go to coat and it actually goes with way more than I was expecting. I thought it would be one of those pieces I’d only get chance to wear now and again but the pastel colour is pretty versatile and goes with loads of items in my wardrobe. I especially like it paired with grey – the colours compliment each other really well. I decided to pair it with this cute grey roll neck dress for this shoot, which is also a recent addition from Missguided – yes, I like their website a lot. I love the detailing around the bottom of the dress – I’m a big fan of the whole lace-up detailing trend and this is a nice take on that and subtle enough to wear casually on a day to day basis or dress up for an evening out.
Another reason I love this coat is because of the tailored and structured style – it’s one of those pieces I instantly feel smart and sophisticated in. I’ve even worn it with a simple jumped read jeans and it instantly transforms a basic casual outfit into a classy and well thought out outfit, even if I literally just threw it on without much thought. What’s even better is that it actually keeps me warm as well as looking good so what’s not to love about it?! I know it’s going to be warn all Winter long.

To finish the look, I popped on my current favourite black ankle boots from Public Desire which are so comfortable and go with absolutely everything – such a must have! I also wore my Desi Perkins Quay sunglasses because you know, sunglasses just make every outfit look cooler, right?!
If you like this coat, you can grab it here with a whopping 50% off which makes it only £30.00 – such a bargain and so worth the money so grab one before they sell out!!
Are you a fan of a statement coat?!

When it gets to this time of year and the temperature outside has significantly dropped, a new coat is always at the top of my shopping list. I think I’m quite fussy when it comes to coats as I’m not into anything too OTT – faux fur, patterns and even bold colours are not my thing when it comes to a coat as I prefer something simple and classic that will go with the majority of outfits I choose to wear. Basically, it needs to be something I can wear all the time and not just on special occasions or with a certain outfit.
That’s where the classic Camel coat comes into play. I don’t know about you but there’s something I love so much about Camel coats – I think they look so chic, classy and add an instant air of sophistication to any outfit. With this being said, I was thrilled when I happened to stumble upon this one from Missguided – my go-to website for virtually everything as they always have such a great range of on-trend pieces. As soon as I set eyes on it, I instantly fell in love and added it to my basket. The next day, it was here with me, just as lovely in the flesh as I’d hoped it would be.

It’s a tailored style that’s designed to be worn open and comes just above the knee which I personally think is the perfect length. Anything longer and I feel like I’m wearing a dressy gown! I decided to go up a size to make sure it would fit over all my chunky Winter knits and as you can see from these photos, it’s a perfect fit and looks great layered over knitwear. It isn’t the thickest coat of all time so I probably won’t be wearing it when the weather gets into the minus territory but for right now, it’s absolutely perfect! I know I’ll get wear out of this right up until next Spring as it’s smart and can be worn both day and night.
The jumper and skirt I’ve paired with the jacket here are also Missguided and you can find them here and here. I love the jumper so much – it’s a cropped oversized style so it’s really comfortable, flattering and the cream colour works perfectly with the Camel coat. I find jumpers like this work really well paired with high waisted skirts or jeans so I’ve paired it with this cute Khaki denim skirt here which is one of those items that I know I’m going to wear loads as it’ll go with so many items in my wardrobe. I’m already picturing it with a black roll neck top and black knee highs – the options are endless, it’s a staple!

Finally, to accessorise, I wore my new tan boots from Shuzee and I’ve had SO many compliments over on my Instagram (follow me here for daily outfit posts) about these. Again, I can tell I’m going to get a lot of wear out of these as they’re a style and colour that go with virtually anything and they’re a perfect match with this coat. I also wore my new Quay x Desi Perkins High Key sunnies and my beloved Chloe Faye handbag which is the perfect neutral colour to wear with this outfit.
